    One way to do this is to mandate that social network platforms follow new standards. Another is to quietly build an alternative world using these standards and let people realise that it is better — just as they did when leaving restricted online services AOL and Prodigy for the freedom of the web.

    Tim mentions a new standard called Solid, that acts as a wallet. People can build new apps that request access to user data in that wallet, and the user has control of that. I have one question: Do we need this? It’s presuming that some kind of social media is part of the solution. I don’t know if that’s true.

  • I find it hilarious that even though I haven’t used my LinkedIn account in years, I still show up on people’s searches. There is literally nothing descriptive in my LinkedIn account. all it guarantees is that I check it like once every couple months, and laugh about it.

    Watching: Death In Paradise, BBC

    With the new season starting to show up on BritBox, I decided to do a rewatch of the whole thing. Yes, it’s a cookie cutter kind of crime procedural, but it’s very British, very fish out of water, and very funny at times. In this day and age, it’s comfort food to keep my mind off of what’s going on in the world. You have to find bits of joy in things somewhere or you’ll go nuts. Here’s one of mine.


    Reading: The Great Shark Hunt, Hunter S. Thompson

    I’ve never watched Fear and Loathing. I did watch The Rum Diary, which got my curiosity up to actually read Hunter. Also, I grew up reading Doonesbury, and Uncle Duke is…well…yeah. Hunter reminds me of that guy who listens very carefully to everyone’s advice, and then does whatever he was going to do in the first place.

    We’re talking about HUNTER. Not ROLEY, HUNTER.

    Yes, Monica Lewinski. If anyone knows about taking back the narrative of their life, I think she does. She has conversations with people who have dealt with some great difficulties, and how they did it. If you know me, it’s right up my alley.


    Working: My goal for March is to make a video. It is not a TikTok or a reel, but a video. Horizontal storytelling is what we did in the pioneer times.
