- If I could be called a fanatic about anything, it is certainly my love of Pink Floyd. This weekend, I learned something new about my favorite band. A long lost solo that links Pigs on the Wing parts 1 and 2, done by Snowy White. It’s on a new release called ‘8-Tracks’, and it’s just beautiful. Damn near brought me to tears, actually. Even more impressive is that it was done in one take.
- Rush opened their Fifty Something Tour last night in Los Angeles. I was very apprehensive about Rush coming back with a new drummer. How do you replace Neil Peart? You don’t. But…you can continue singing his songs and honoring his work. I realized that I was being a bit hypocritical when it comes to a new person doing the job, because I have always been very loud about giving the new Doctor(s) a chance. So I went in with an open mind. Annika Nilles is going to do just fine. Also, kudos to the band for using ‘Bravado’ as the song for the tribute. Absolutely perfect.
- Today was WWDC. I used to look forward to these, but my enthusiasm has waned over the years. I think it’s because we’ve reached a sort of plateau with what can be done with the technology in its current form. Everything else is an iteration on what is already there. AI is the new focus, but I don’t trust anything that’s being done with it right now. When the adults arrive and figure out how not to use it for evil (or stop it from using itself for evil, hi Skynet), I’ll think we’ll all be better off.
